What should an ADU resubmittal include after plan check corrections?
A complete resubmittal usually includes a response letter that answers every comment, revised drawings with each change clouded and marked with a delta, and updated calculations or reports, in whatever set format your city asks for. Requirements differ by department, and an incomplete package can be turned away at intake. Follow your city's resubmittal instructions exactly.
The response letter
- Answer each comment. Yorba Linda asks for a separate typed response to each item, with the method of resolution and its location in the plans or calculations.
- Point to the exact spot. Los Angeles's plumbing correction sheet asks you to indicate the sheet number and detail or note number for each correction.
- Don't skip it. The Town of Danville treats a resubmittal without a response letter as incomplete, and Yorba Linda will not accept one.
The revised drawings
- Cloud and delta. Danville asks applicants to cloud and delta all revisions so reviewers can see where changes were made.
- Full set or changed sheets. Check this one carefully. Danville requires complete sets and will not accept individual modified sheets. San Diego requires electronic resubmittals to include the full plan set and does not accept partial submittals.
- Deleted or added sheets. San Diego asks that a deleted sheet stay in the set with a strike and a "DELETED SHEET" label, and that newly inserted sheets get new, unique numbers.
- Return what they marked. Yorba Linda asks you to return the plans, calculations and documents from the original submittal along with the revised package.
- Version control. Adding a revision number and date to each changed sheet's title block helps the reviewer tell versions apart.
Calculations, Title 24 and stamps
If a correction changes equipment, loads or fixture counts, the related calculations should change with it: the electrical load calculation, the fixture unit table, the mechanical equipment schedule and the Title 24 report. The California Energy Commission's 2025 ADU guidance says compliance documents must be registered with an ECC provider, so an updated energy report may need to be registered again. If the original sheets were stamped, the revised sheets need a current stamp and signature too.
A quick pre-upload check
- Every comment has a numbered answer with a sheet reference.
- Every change on the sheets is clouded, and nothing unclouded changed.
- The sheet index matches the sheets in the set.
- Calculations and the energy report match the revised drawings.
What this means for your MEP plans
When you forward the correction list and checked set, MEP Plans USA revises the affected MEP sheets, clouds the changes and prepares written responses to the MEP comments, then re-delivers resubmittal-ready PDFs. City corrections are included with every order, along with two revisions. See city plan check corrections, revisions included and Title 24 reports. Confirm your city's resubmittal rules before uploading.
